Mountain Hearth Membership
Members
I wish I had the history of the Native Americans who lived here first, based on arrowheads the previous owners found. Mountain Hearth Village’s other original members include white-throated sparrows, Eastern Towhee, Indigo Bunting, Cedar Waxwing, and thousands of birds migrating through; howling coyote, and the astounding synchronized fireflies in May.
Please see the Mission, Vision post for our Shared Agreements.
With full hearts we welcome you to become either an Angel Member or a Resident Member, as follows:
Angel Members (non resident)
We invite caring people who live offsite to become Angel Members and give four hours a month of your time and talents (our Community Meal counts as one hour) and/ or financial contributions that are at a level that is right for your life. The suggested donation is $100/year. Those funds are designated for: providing temporary housing and food for someone who has a temporary housing crisis; maintaining the roads and parking areas here so that others may continue to come and experience this healing land and community; maintaining water and sewer and good land management practices for the community.
Our legal association will be formed before July 1, 2024, and after that happens then we will establish a bank account to be used for Mountain Hearth sustainability. We heartily welcome your contributions which can be made in a variety of forms later in 2024.
Resident Members
If you are interested in living here, either as a renter or if you are interested in building a home here, we invite you to learn more in these ways:
- Attend three zooms, held monthly the last Wed. at 12:30 pm Eastern US time. Join Zoom Meeting https://us06web.zoom.us/j/81679196488
- Attend three shared meals, held monthly at 6 pm on the third Sunday
- Take or have taken a class on Nonviolent Communication within the past 2 years (readily available at Earthaven Ecovillage nearby!)
- Take or have taken a class on living lightly on the land within the past 2 years (also available at Earthaven Ecovillage)
- Read everything on this website, especially Are You A Good Fit? and make a list of any questions or concerns you have
- Fill out our membership application with contact information for three people who can vouch for your being a good potential fit for this intentional community
- Have an introductory conversation with our membership circle
- Rent one of the areas here for three months so that we can all see how we fit together.
- Tell your story at a Shared Meal night.
- For those who wish to build here, you would also begin meeting with our Land Management Circle.
The Home Owner’s Association
The land here will support about five homes total, and that will be the extent of our onsite members who make up our HOA. Our Membership Circle has created Shared Agreements about how we show respect for our bodies, minds, and souls, for each other, and for all the creatures in the physical environment that we share.
Getting To Know You
Folks who feel an affinity and conviction for our Mission, Vision and Shared Agreements are invited to attend a Zoom and a Shared Meal to learn more.
Ownership
If you are familiar with condominium ownership, that is similar to what you would own at Mountain Hearth. Once you become a member here, if you want to build here, then you will meet with the Land Management Circle and can purchase the right to build on one of the lots here. You would own your lot and what you build on it, and your home ownership falls under all agreements at Mountain Hearth Village. You can sell or bequeath your property to anyone who meets all of the membership agreements.
Later in 2024, we will establish reasonable monthly dues that resident members pay the HOA to help maintain roads and other agreed-upon maintenance goals.
Current Residents
Folks who are living here in the spring of 2024 are transitioning from Airbnb guests to Mountain Hearth Villagers. Those changes include:
As of May 1, everyone is paying their share of the electric bill, in order to prompt more consciousness about the spending of fossil fuels and rising electrical costs.
Residents are invited and encouraged to read everything on this page and this website so that they can transition to Mountain Hearth. Talk to Sheridan about any concerns. The transition should be fully complete by June 1.
