Mountain Hearth Village is a small group of like-minded, open-hearted people living with shared agreements on a pocket neighborhood on a 5.5-acre homestead in McDowell County in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Interested? Read this web page, including the blog posts here, join one of our Zoom meetings, held on the last Wednesday of each month for one hour at 12:30 pm, and come to a Shared Meal on the 3rd Sunday of each month beginning at 6 pm ( sometimes a fire circle will happen at dusk). Email us through the Contact page for the next Zoom meeting time and link. With every step, with every breath, we are doing our part to create the beautiful present and future.

Co-Housing… Pocket Neighborhood…Village

There are lots of terms and they are used differently. Most of the models are all types of “intentional community” in the sense that a group of people have come together to live near each other, with full intention and some kinds of agreements regarding the physicality and the social aspects of the community.

Cohousing is an intentional, collaborative neighborhood that combines private homes with shared indoor and outdoor spaces designed to support an active and interdependent community life. Cohousing is not a financial or legal model, but rather a descriptive term that emphasizes the active participation of residents in everything from design to governance.” – Cohousing Association of the U.S.

Some communities also have a way to create and share income as a community, and on this land some enterprising members might grow mushrooms, microgreens and more.

In some models, Co-Housing includes a community building with shared facilities such as a large kitchen for shared meals, larger laundry machines, a space where guests can sleep when they visit, and so on. This is a vision but not yet a financed plan. There are several wonderful outdoor areas, including where a Bus/RV is on the map here, that will be perfect for firepit and gatherings.
